How I Helped Geyser with Storytelling and Video

As a bitcoin consultant, I had the privilege to work with Geyser, a crowdfunding company that focuses on bitcoin. Working with them was an exciting opportunity for me, as it allowed me to contribute to the growth of their business and the bitcoin industry as a whole.

One of the crucial aspects of branding for any company is storytelling. People want to connect emotionally with a product or service, and storytelling is one of the most engaging ways to achieve this. In the case of bitcoin, storytelling is even more important as it is still a nascent and misunderstood industry. Any story has to remain true to the ethics and culture of bitcoin while still being broad enough to attract newcomers to the space.

My approach to storytelling always involves using the Dan Harmon story method. This method provides a simple framework for building a story that covers all the necessary elements. There are eight points to follow, and I make sure to cover a minimum of six to ensure the story is complete. This method can be used for telling any type of story, whether it is a film, an act, a scene, or an advertisement. Dan Harmon is an American writer and producer who is best known for co-creating the television series "Community" and for creating the animated series "Rick and Morty." Harmon developed a method for storytelling that he refers to as the "Story Circle," which is based on the work of the mythologist Joseph Campbell.

The Story Circle is a circular diagram that outlines the eight basic story beats of a narrative. These beats are as follows:

  1. A character is in a zone of comfort

  2. But they want something

  3. They enter an unfamiliar situation

  4. Adapt to it

  5. Get what they wanted

  6. Pay a heavy price for it

  7. Then return to their familiar situation

  8. Having changed

I have used this method in the past to work on my documentary The Great Reset and the Rise of Bitcoin, but also my new project The Fight for the US Dollar and more. Building the basic elements of your story comes very easily with this tool:

When I started working with Geyser, I came up with several general ideas about the platform, the path for starting a fundraiser, finding a project, and more. After narrowing down the options with the CEO, we decided to focus only on a new feature release they were implementing.

From that point on, the storytelling took a different route. We focused on the app itself, presenting the interface in the right order and highlighting key elements. We considered questions such as: Do we want voiceover? What is the right tempo? What is the appropriate look and feel for this branding exercise?

I was fortunate that the CEO of Geyser had a clear vision of what he wanted to achieve, which made it easier for me to deliver exactly what was expected. The end result was a smooth and professional video, and the client was pleased with the outcome.

This project was a valuable learning experience for me. I improved my technical skills as an editor, learned new ways of putting together a video more efficiently, and created a video that exceeded the client's expectations. The video can be viewed here:

The successful outcome of this project has led to new clients who need my help in building a story around their brand and targeting bitcoin enthusiasts. As someone who has gone through the process of becoming a bitcoiner myself, I have an extra edge in understanding how to communicate with this audience. It is also much easier to work with someone that understands the bitcoin-only space and doesn’t need to be onboarded on some crucial communication points.
